Please keep in mind that our urgent care services are not meant to replace primary care. Your child should still see his or her doctor on a regular basis. Most doctors prefer to see pediatric patients at least once a year.

VIDEO: School Physicals in Colorado Springs
Need a school physical last minute? Is a nurse practitioners signature just as good as a doctor’s? What does it cost? Watch this video interview with Eileen Flavin, FNP-C for the answers:
The purpose of a school physical is to determine if a child is healthy enough to attend school, participate in a sport, or perhaps attend a camp. There are three primary things that we likely check, which include completing a medical history, physical exam, and shot records. The following is an explanation of each:
Medical History: This is completed by asking the patient questions about their past medical conditions and what diseases might be in their family.
Physical Exam: The physical exam may require any or all of the following checks:
- flexibility and strength
- feel belly
- heart beat
- heart rate
- body temperature
- body posture/spine alignment
- blood pressure
- urine sample
- blood sample
- weight and height
- emotional health
Immunizations: Typical school physicals require any or all of the following vaccinations:
- DTP or DTaP
- Tdap, Td or Pediatric DT
- Hepatitis B
- Single Antigen
- Pneumococcal Conjugate
You can learn more about vaccinations at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website: cdc.gov
